As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of Paperback Swap. With that service people find new homes for their used books. It’s great because when you receive a book, it only cost the equivalent of media rate postage–averages around $2.50.
Anyway, the most recent book I got was sent from Tampa, FL last Friday and I received it today (Monday). Wow. Clearly it went by plane. I’m just amazed and tickled when the Postal Service does something well to my benefit.
That said, I still think that if it weren’t illegal to create a competing service for first-class mail that better, more efficient, and cheaper services would spring up and smoke the government monopoly.
