So long, and thanks for all the sticks

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Primo, Secondo, Terzo and myself had a really time training with Seattle Modern Arnis. Sadly, after the school had to change locations we couldn’t make the scheduling work. This is a real bummer. Master Jay is absolutely one of the best martial arts teachers I’ve had the pleasure of working with in my 20 (yikes!) years in the martial arts.

Primo has moved to a western boxing program, and that is going well.

Secondo has moved into the world of competitive swimming and taken to it like, ahem, a fish in water.

I’ve gotten involved with some lunatics who are practicing a Victorian-era style of fighting using walking sticks and umbrellas.

I am really going to miss the stick sparring though. I hope that things will change in the future and we can go back to the sticks.

The World of Anathem

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

By chance, Primo and I got a chance to do a little stunt work in the trailer for Neal Stephenson’s new book “Anathem“.

If you stop at 1:33 you can see me getting put into an arm bar. You can also see half of Primo on the far left edge of the frame – alas, he is only visible for 7 frames of video. Such are the humble beginnings of a show business career.

Can’t wait for my copy of the book to be delivered!
